JDE JAS WEB and IBM X-Series Integration

Has anyone attempted to put JDE JAS/Web on an X-Series server in an i-Series box? How about putting multiple (4) X-Series servers for JDE Web (for 800 users) in an i-Series 840? Because of the tight integration and dependencies between the i-Series and X-Series...is this configuration "high-availability suicide"?

We are in the process of acquiring multiple x-Series servers and need to write some evaluation criteria. I am interested in hearing the experiences of ANYONE with JDE JAS/WEB on one or multiple x-Series servers. What are the downsides? Any small inconvienences or major nightmares on X-Series compared to separate Compaq servers? Any noticeable performance gains on the X-Series?

I have installed multiple customers with a JDE Web server on an external
xSeries whose primary enterprise server is an iSeries.

Typically this is done in an effort to 'try out' the Web client without
putting a great deal of additional load on the iSeries. JDE services,
IBM HTTP server, IBM WebSphere, and JDE Web are all installed on the
xSeries server. The J environments are then configured to use the
xSeries for DEFAULT BSFN processing. Another advantage of this
configuration is that it allows the JDE Web server to be placed in the
network DMZ.

The problem with the above configuration is performance. Despite using
a 4-way, 4GB xSeries, even with only a single user, it was taking us 1
minute to pull up a 30 line sales order line using the order number as a
key. This, despite 1GB network connections

After much pain, PTF loading, JAS.INI tuning, installing WebSphere and
JDE Web on iSeries, and jdbc tweaking we arrived at a configuration that
reduced the 30 line sales order inquiry time to 3 seconds. IBM HTTP
server, IBM WebSphere, and JDE Web are all installed on the xSeries
server. The J environments are now configured to use the iSeries for
DEFAULT BSFN processing. Not sure on the 'Why?' part of this yet, but
will keep the list updated as we continue to refine this.
