Integrated Netfinity Server on AS/400 as Deployment server

Is there anyone out there actually using the Integrated Netfinity Server on the AS/400 as their deployment server? Do you like it? Do you have any issues?

We started out that way, but went to a separate server. The issue was with
the backup and restore. When we began using it, if you had to restore any
part (a single directory, say), you would have to restore the whole space.
(We did once...that's all it took.) And, you had to have room on the AS/400
for twice the space of the INS because on the restore it wrote to a
temporary space, then wrote to the INS itself. This all might have changed
by now.

I don't recall any performance issues, though.

Yes, we're doing this and it works beautifully. Our system (V5R1, xSeries unknown model) has a limitation of 75 GB partitions, but is otherwise wonderful. For backups, we're using Veritas Backup Exec for Windows Servers rather than relying on the AS400 backup.

Please let me know if you have any other questions!

did you choose to use the network backup system do to the same problem, if you restore from an AS/400 backup, you have to restore a whole directory tree?

Yes. Because it is truly a Windows 2000 Server, it made sense to use a Windows backup solution.

Certainly the IBM backup solution will work, but is practical only for circumstances requiring a complete (or major) restore.
