Annual Roll up of Manufacturing Cost (fwd)

I am a novice to the manufacturing suite (albeit, I
have scheduled training
for November), I need to know how other manufacturing
organizations handle
annual cost roll up. We are have 2 B/P that we roll
annually. When we did
our roll up of the 1st one last month, the IE's
discovered that when they
entered new Purchase prices for raw materials into the
F4105 file - it took
affect immediately (even I knew that) but they feel
there should be a way
they can enter all of the variables (Labor Rates, Crew
Sizes, new purchase
part prices) into the PRODUCTION ENVIRONMENT prior to
the EFFECTIVE date of
the new costs so that they can do simulated rollups
prior to the frozen
rollup.

This is what you use your simulated cost roll for - Program P30820. When
you run the simulated you can put the rolled up simulated in any bucket you
want say 99 (processing option 2). If you change the simulated work center
rates before you run the program your cost set 99 will give you your cost.
You can go through the simulated as many times as you need to. When you
are satisfied with the cost run P30835 which moves the simulated to your
frozen (processing option 2).

Future standard purchase cost can be entered under a different cost type,
which can then be specified in the processing option for purchased cost(#8,
I think) for the cost rollup.
Work center rates can be changed without affecting the frozen rates.

Thanks for this information - however I believe I am still needing some
clarification. 1st How do you set up 'simulated' WC rates. Do you create
bogus WC's with the new rates? How does this work with the actual routings,
etc... Also, what about Purchase prices for raw materials? Our IE's have
been entering them via F4105 screens which is a real time immediate change
in PRODUCTION. I know they know how to create simulated roll ups to all
sorts of 'bogus' cost method buckets. It is the actual simulation of the
effect of the changed labor rates and materials that they would like to
simulate against our production item master. Preliminarily I would assume
if I had a mirrored test/prototype environment, all of my problems would be
solved. HOWEVER, I am currently unable to support the two full environments
due to DASD shortages. Any further information would be greatly
appreciated.

THANKS! TIM THAT IS VERY HELPFUL!!!!

What I have found to be the best is to use one of the other cost buckets to
update the data. For example, Purchasing would use the 05 bucket to store
new standards. In the Work Center file, you can store new rates in the 05
buckets as well. Then you can do simulated cost rolls in the 05. Once you
are comfortable you can freeze it which gives you comparison capability.
