AS400 (STRASPBAL *USAGE)

Performance is degrading on my AS/400 enterprise server due to uneven DASD utilization. On our busiest couple of days per month, DASD 1-8 are occassionaly running at 70% (over a 15 minute average) and DASD 9-18 are running at about 8%.

I have run the TRCASPBAL job during such periods, and then followed up with STRASPBAL *USAGE to rebalance "hot" data accross all drives. QHST shows that STRASPBAL successfully starts and immediately ends. I checked the IBM website and it says this indicates that TRCASPBAL did not record any balance discrepancies. This just cannot be right.

Any AS/400 admins out there with a suggestion?

I had that problem when we first installed 15G drives on one of the old I/O cards. We upgraded our I/O cards to a newer version with more cache- they're cheap.
