OS upgrade to Windows 2003

Hi Guys

We are planning to upgrade Enterprise server and Deployment server OS from Windows NT 4.0 to Windows 2003 and client machines to XP. For Citrix server, we are planning to upgrade OS to Windows 2000 and metaframe to XP. We know that we will have to upgrade the service pack to 22. Has anybody done it or planning to do it?

Any suggestions?

Vivek...

Please note I am not saying that Windows 2003 will not work...however,
please be aware, Windows 2003 is not, I repeat, NOT, supported in any
way, shape, form, platform, configuration, flavor, or version (I just had
an open call with GSS to verify this).

In fact, a quick glance at the current MTR's on the KG doesn't even list
Windows 2003. I am assured that certification is being worked towards,
but there are user interface issues and probably other issues that
haven't even been uncovered yet. There is no public anticipated date for
certifying this OS.

Also, even if you forgo the W2003 upgrade, please note the known issues
with using Windows XP on the client machines, especially those used for
development/package building.

For the good news, though, you should love life after upgrading your WTS
from NT TSE to W2K.

Good luck....

Regards,

Jim

Hi Jim
First of all thanks for your reply. We are thinking of upgrading to Windows 2003 because we do not want to upgrade our OS again and again(NT 4.0 --->Windows 2000 ----> Windows 2003).
JDEdwards has already announced support for Windows 2003( They have yet to annouce it for Oracle on Windows 2003). There is technical flash communication available at knowledge garden regarding support for Windows 2003.

What OS do you use at client side for Windows 2k(Is it Windows 2k client edition?)

Vivek,

I agree with your plan to upgrade the OS once and think that will be the
way to go. But in my conversation with GSS today about this topic, and
though the tech flash went out, W2003 still has user interface issues
with no work-arounds, and as such, per GSS, is not supported until it
appears on the MTR page (you'll notice in the Tech Flash it even
references that point). The reason for my opening a call was that a
client wants to go to W2003, and I've seen the Tech Flash, but the MTR's
don't make any mention of it, so before I told the client it is or isn't
supported, I wanted the official answer. I just wanted to let you know
that I dealt with your exact issue just today.

Again, I'm not trying to say you can't upgrade nor that OneWorld/ERP 8
will not function (from a logic and processing aspect) properly, but in
my experience, the user interface issues, especially if using XP as the
client are enough of a nuisance that I'd wait to upgrade until support is
documented on the MTR page and there is more of a user base to report
issues.

As far as the client issue is concerned for W2K server systems...XP works
fine (with known alterations) as a client OS, but I'd still recommend W2K
Pro for development/package building machines.

Again, good luck with your project and I hope you post your successes and
"opportunities" during the execution phase of your upgrade. I'm
especially anxious to see if XP clients react more favorably with W2003
as the server OS.

Regards,

Jim
