MDAC 2.7 SP1 in AS400 Environment

We are about to swap in a new deployment server and our network folks preloaded it with SQL 2000 SP3 which I found out has MDAC 2.7 SP1 Refresh on it. Our Enterprise server is an AS400.

Client connections which we have are running MDAC 2.6 mostly with a couple of XP boxes which I read have MDAC 2.7. The DS is at MDAC 2.6 SP2.

Anyone have any problems with 2.7 SP1?

My understanding (??) is since we are on the AS400, clients are primarly using the Client Access OBDC datasource to get to the AS400 and not a SQL box so MDAC might not be a big issue unless it a developer machine.

If I wanted to stay with the MTR specs and MDAC 2.6 SP2, how do I get MDAC 2.7 SP1 off? The rollback version is the same as the installed version. Can I install MDAC 2.6 SP2 over top? Uninstall SQL 2000 and then reload SP2?

SP1 had a problem with queries running slow. Even though is only your
Deployment server it will probably slow down you package builds.

This was a message that I sent out a couple of weeks ago. the thread was
about the R42995 running like a dog.

Well we fixed our problem here. We were running Sql Server 2K with sp3 and
mdac 2.7 sp1. There is a known issue with this combination of queries taking
a very long time. we installed Mdac 2.7 sp1a over lunch today and the system
response has improved tremendously.

Custom report went 20 minutes a run down to 3 minutes.
R3190 went from an hour and a quarter down to 15 minutes.
The R42995 went from 2 hours down to 11 minutes.
Nice to see a Patch actually fix something.


Just make sure it is SP1a and it will run fine!
