Hello list,
I would like some information if anyone knows of Vans (Value Added Networks) that they use for EDI that have standard mappings setup to interface with (810, 940, or 945 X12 documents) to and from flat files out of OneWorld XE. Some of the Vans I have already spoken with have only dealt with 810 document types.
I would appreciate any information you may have.

Many Thanks

Hi there...

The most common vans that I am aware of are Infonet (IBM) if that's what
they are still called.... Sterling Commerce has their own... GEIS .... and
Invois (formerly Harbinger/Peregrine/Premenos).... they all have used those
transaction sets. thanks, Bobby

Hello Anthony,

Why use a VAN if they are not able to support the document types you now
need supported. Maybe your companies needs have evolved beyond what any VAN
is able to provide and it is time to bring an EDI translation package in
house (if you do not already have one) and transmit your documents directly
to your partners in whatever format they require.

There are several companies out there such as SSC that specialize in E-Com
and EDI that can guide you through the steps in choosing a translation
package that best meets your company's needs and work with your trading
partners to provide the document formats they require directly from your
system instead using a VAN to do that. You can even use the current cost of
the VAN to justify the cost for translation software and the development
costs to create the proper format and transaction setup for each of your
trading partners. SSC can also teach you and your staff how to do the same
setup for any new trading partners or transactions that needs to be setup in
the future.

I hate this to sound like a commercial for SSC. There are many consulting
companies that can provide you with the same service but my real message and
advice to you if that by bringing EDI fully in house you reduce your VAN
cost and it will provide you with the ability to be more flexible and meet
all your trading partner's needs. More than likely the money you save from
your VAN costs will achieve an ROI on partner direct EDI development in less
then 12 months. 12 months is a conservative ROI. I have personally been
involved several in house development EDI projects that have brought much a
quicker ROI.

Re: RE: EDI

Hello Don,

Many thanks for your suggestions. Yes we are aware that to translate ourselves is a better option, infact that is what we are going to do in the not to distant future. The main problem is we will be about 6-9 months away from this resolution and because of implementation time restrictions we need a van to do the translation for us in the interim, also with particular customers whether we translate or not we have to send our tranmission via a van. I thank you for your comments which has strengthed our ideas to translate ourselves.

Many Thanks

Hi Bobby,

Thank you for your suggestions. I have already contacted a couple of your suggestions and will look into the others.

Many thanks
