Changing Dep Srv

Hello List,

We're getting a brand new Dep Srv here (higher spec, more disk) and I wondering what would be the steps in moving our current Dep Srv config to the new server without having to reinstall OW.

Would it be ok to copy the /JDEdwardsOneWorld file system & retain the same IP address and server name (from the old Dep Srv, thereby taking this server out of commision)?
Any Planner changes? or registry setting modifications?

Thanks for the tips in advance!

Philip,

Search this forum for "Deployment Server" and you'll see plenty of posts about putting in a new deployment server, including references to at least one good Knowledge Garden document that deals exactly with your scenario.

It is definitely best if you can keep the same deployment server name, otherwise there are numerous tables you would need to update.

Hi Philip,

This is pretty straightforward. I would certainly agree that you must keep the Server name and preferably IP address the same as old box.

The high level steps are:

- Fully backup the current Deployment Server including registry

- Get new server installed on network (at this point, it should be assigned a new name and ip address). Make sure the new server has logical drives setup same as old one (e.g. if you have a C and D drive on old make sure new one has C and D drive).

- Setup new server with necessary 3rd party software to meet MTRs (e.g. C++, Client Access)

- Install OneWorld code from setup CD. You will need to obtain an SPC code from JDE (make sure you install to exact same location/directory/drive as old deployment server)

- Restore or copy the entire OneWorld directory structure from old Deployment Server to new one.

- Export the registry entries for JDEdwards and ODBC under HKEYLocalMachine Software on old Deployment Server. Import these settings on the new Deployment Server.

- Make sure you can logon to the new Deployment Server and everything looks okay.

- Finally, take the old server off the network. Change the name and IP address on new server to match the old one.

Good luck!

Sanjeev,
IF we upgrade from NT4.0 to WIN2000 deployment server, is the procedure still the same?
David

Hi David,

The steps I posted are ones we used to migrate an NT 4 server (which was a card in our AS/400), to an external Windows 2000 Server. We had no problems with the process - the server has been up and running for over a month.

Regards,

Sanjeev
