Where to put BLOB's

Where to put BLOB\'s

We are just beginning our project to move from World to One World Coexistence. I've heard two differenct recommendations: to put the BLOB's on the AS/400 vs. putting them on the deployment server.

I would like to get some feedback from other clients on where you'd recommend putting them and what are some of the advantages/disadvantages of each?

Thank you in advance

Re: Where to put BLOB\'s

I suppose it depends on if you need 7/24 availability.

We put central objects ONLY on our deployment server. All other tables
reside on our AS/400. This allows us to take the deployment server down
periodically without impacting our users. Development is impacted as they
need access to CO, we are a TSE shop and all our users access OW via TSE,
so JITI is not an issue.

Re: Where to put BLOB\'s

Carmen,

If you are running V4R4 or higher on your AS/400, I would recommend putting
the Central Objects on that system. The advantages are:

1) You don't have to rely on the deployment Server being up to run your
business.

2) You can backup your all of you OneWorld data with a single save.

3) You don't have to learn/support SQL Server.

The Dis-advantages:

1) If you are not running SQL Server on you deployment server, you have a
fairly powerful server just sitting there, unless you are building or
deploying a package.

2) You don't get to learn SQL Server

Hope this helps,

Andy
