HTML Bandwidth

Dear JDElist,

I wonder if you can give me some info of your experience,

We are testing OW HTML Xe SP21_E1 on an iseries 830 4 processors.

We have now discovered, running the HTML takes a lot of 'bandwidth', we
tested it in our
LAB and found out that the HTML takes about 400 kbps/user to run with a
good performance
(to get up the info on the screens in about 2-5 sec).
I have read in different doc. that the HTML Client shall only take 2-5
kbps, is that true ?

I have also tested the HTML Client from my home over an ISDN 64 kbps line
and it's
very slow, just to click the different TABs (mail, ......) in the Adr book
(P01012) takes
about 20 sec to get them up with info, with Citrix is much quicker.

What about your experience, do you run HTML over a WAN ? what is your
experience about
the bandwidth ? does it exists any 'settings' that I haven't seen ?

Thank you for your help.

two AS400 as ES, OW Xe, SP18.1_F1 (for the Web test, SP21_E1)

Hi Mats

We added in another layer in between the webserver and the browser. Our Webserver is plugged into a switch, the switch is plugged into a Boostworks "BoostEdge" network appliance. This appliance compresses all HTML traffice flowing through it 4 to 1. It is completely transparent to JDE and Websphere but does speed things up considerably.

Hi,

As gregglarkin, we also add an html compression device, called Appcelera ICX55, from Packeteer. It really reduces the bandwith used by html. As an example :
In 1 month, we delivered 120 Mbytes instead of 420Mbytes.

Those kind of Appliance are really easy to set up (just have to plug it to between your webserver and your netword).

We choosed this appliance because it was cheaper than BoostEdge. (But boostedge can have other uses).
You can find some informations on the web.

Hello,

Thank you all for your info,=20
I will put them together ,have a look at them and see what I will do.=20
