CNC configuration

I am investigating setting up our configuration and deciding on the best option.
Currently using a standalone for development but looking at moving these to the AS400.
Im presuming a two tier would be best with a fat client for the apps.
Is there anything I should watch out for in terms of applications filling up the PCs by using JIT.
