RE: Running OneWorld across multiple sites

Dear All

This is a very interesting thread and I would be very interested in hearing
about peoples thoughts on WAN connection vs WEB connections between remote
sites using Citrix.

Obviously a WAN connection using Frame relay between 2 countries on
different sides of the world has lots of benefits. It is pretty much fully
controllable, you know what bandwidth you have and the performance of the
link is fairly manageable. However it can be expensive!!

With a WEB connection using VPN the cost is significantly lower, however
there are a number of issues relating to performance and reliability.

Our experience has been that once a connection has been made using VPN over
the web, the performance is pretty reasonable, and definitely 'Business
Usable' dependant on the number of users etc. However we have found that the
reliability of the connection is terrible.

At times the connection drops out and can not be re-established for lengthy
periods of time. This has been found to be the result of one or more of the
jumps between different servers of the providers being re-routed. We have
seen that an internet connection between Europe and Australia can have up to
30 jumps. All it needs is for a company to re-route their connections in the
'Internet cloud' and the result is that Citrix client stops responding and
may eventually drop the connection.

I am very interested to hear from anyone about their experiences setting up
'Business usable' connections of Citrix via the WEB using VPN
