Re: Linux as the Dabase Platform.

Stuart,

That's a great question. In theory, as I sit here pondering, as long as
the client has a way to connect to the DB I'd say the choice of OS for a
pure DB server should be a non-issue. OW issues SQL commands via that
ODBC connection, so as long as your ODBC's were supported by OW, I'd
think it would have to work.

I'd certainly be interested to hear the results if someone is going to
try this, or has already done it.

Of course, you'd have to always lie about your DB OS if you called the
support line! :)

Regards,

Jim

Don't use ODBC for an Oracle database my freind - use OCI.

Theres also a difference in the way that OneWorld sends commands to ODBC based on how the database management system expects the commands. I know, sounds very backwards, but for example Access doesn't require a database object OwnerID for each object - and AS400's require a Library name. Don't think that Informix would work fine just because they have an ODBC driver - believe me, I think you'll have a pile of issues.

Same goes with MySQL for all those Linuts out there ! (I prefer PostgresSQL meself.....!)
