Oneworld does not support Lotus Notes (Even though they are partners?) but it still works as all you are doing is firing SMTP messages at the notes server.
3 things to consider -
1) You have everything set-up correctly i.e. jde.ini on the client & server to point to the mail server.
2) Your mail server is set to accept "Spam" mail or "SMTP" mails from that server or clients as they often dont by default if your Notes admin is doing their job correctly.
3) This definatelly works as we have the same thing configured and working (Except the box is not AS400 - but this should make no difference).
