Re: [Portal Vs. Citrix]

To provide an alternative opinion, I'll say that I certainly do sleep better
knowing that my internal user community depend on a Citrix Server
implementation. We have done a significant number of mods to the system and
have 3 full time developers continually enhancing the system and are not in a
position to take a large number of ESUs or SP one-offs due to the retrofit and
testing requirements.
Since the web-based client offering is still improving, it has always seemed
that part of the troubleshooting process has been taking the latest code JAS
code which requires you take the latest SP offering as well. If your in a
position where you can accept this level of change, you might consider the
web-based solution. 1. Because it means zero client deployment and 2. Because
the word is that Edwards wants to make it a staple in the product.
I like the concept of a web-based client but when I've implemented it, I found
myself calling Response Line to solve my problems and depending more upon them
to provide a solution where I'm otherwise used to doing my own research on a
Citrix/fat client to locate the problem myself.

process of attempting on a JDE solution. Currently we are in some capacities
using both the Portal and Citrix. WE want to make a definite decision on
which solution we should go forward with. I have past experience with Citrix
and despite its numerous headaches I guess you can say it works, on the other
hand I don’t have that much JAS experience that is I have not used it in a
live environment before. Based on our current needs I don’t think there are
any functional areas that we cannot handle with JAS, but I am concerned with
is the stability of JAS and being able to handle the processing that we are
going to be doing. We will not be running MRP or anything like that but we
will be processing shipments etc. I know about the added support and third
party support that exists between JDE, Citrix and Microsoft and the Print
drivers nightmare. Can anyone give me a solid opinion on this?
