If you have the print queues on the print server configured to transmit PS and
PCL jobs to the printer devices using LPR, then it's likely that your running
into a source port limitation that is created by MS's implementing the LPR/LPD
protocol described in the RCF spec 1179.
The spec says to use only source TCP ports 721-731 when sending jobs from the
print server. Once these ports are filled up on a busy print server things
will grid to a halt.

Check out MS Knowledge Doc 179156 for the registry hack to move the source
ports to an unlimited range above 1024.
