We are in the process of planning our B7332 to ERP8 upgrade.

B7332 WINDOWS NT 4, SQL SERVER 7

We are installing new hardware to go along with the new version.

When doing the upgrade do you have to install the old version on the new
machine or can you just bring over the databases and do TC on them.

William :

You have to install B7332 and ERP8 on the same Deployment box, and TCs run
against B7332 Business Data and Control Tables databases.

Brian, the procedure I would recommend is to install B7332 on the new hardware and make NO other changes. Once satisfied that JDE is working on the new box, then proceed with the upgrade to ERP8. Makes it a lot easier to troubleshoot if you only change one thing at a time. If you have problems with the simultaneous installation of a new version on new hardware, you have twice as much to look at to determine what is wrong. My two cents worth, others may disagree...

Brian,
I would set up B7332 on the new boxes and then let the upgrade procedure take
care of the TCs. The upgrade procedure has been greatly improved. TO install
B7332 on the new servers will take less than a day(Just like doing a diaster
recovery). I have done this procedure many times.

Good luck

Hi Brian,

I have done this from B7331 to XE. Assuming the new server have the same name (it is a lot easier to do it) IF not, there is a lot of SQL updates command to rename the server in all the System tables and Central OBjects.

1. On the new Deployment server and Enterprise, install B7332.
2. Once installed do Porttest.
3. Make sure that your CRP and DEV environments on your old system is up to date (copying version and refreshing data)
4. Detach all databases (except PROD) and copy the file to tape (since the servers have the same name, you can not have them on the same network).
5. Restore file from tape to the new servers.
6. Detach the Databases on the New Enterprise Server.
7. Attach the Databases from your old system.
8. You are going to have to change the SID on the SQL user names and owner. There are SQL command to do this.
9. Test connectivity
10. Start upgrade.

This seems to be long but it is not. It took me 3 or 4 days to do. The longest thing was backing up the database and restoring the files.

wouldnt it be just as easy to make 2 ODBC entrys on the "New Server" and
point them to your current box, or a copy of the Current databases. This way
you dont end up with any garbage on your New Hardware / Install.
