Yellow telephones in Citrix

We are experiencing problems with isolated users on our citrix servers (around 4). Their sessions crash and where their exit bar icons are they have yellow telephones appearing instead. I think it could be a memory leakage problem and I've only noticed it since we've been on Xe. It isn't everyone on the citrix server - only one isolated person. Their profiles have been recreated both on citrix and OneWorld and the security is via a group profile which is shared with lots of unaffected users. It happens once or twice a day. The OneWorld kernels are unaffected and the enterprise server is not heavily utilised. Has anyone heard of this problem...? We have around 12 ctx servers running NT4 ctx ver 1.8. Could it be the fact that we're using citrix to deliver more applications than just OneWorld...?
Thanks,
Richard

Hello,

My best advice to you would be to upgrade to Citrix XP and run it on W2K. MetaFrame 1.8 on NT has been riddled with problems for a long time. You will definitely see a huge increase in stability by upgrading.

Dan

Those little yellow telephones are actually a little known feature of Citrix software.

The user is supposed to click on the yellow phone icon to bring up software by http://www.phonefree.com/ and make a call to Citrix at 800-424-8749. This is the much-promised "Telephony-Computer Integration" (http://everything2.com/index.pl?lastnode_id=52175&node_id=14916)

This special feature is supposed to make it easier for end users to discuss issues with Citrix Systems, Inc. (Nasdaq: CTXS), a leader in enterprise infrastructure software and services.

After all, Citrix Systems, Inc. helps ensure that the increasingly remote workforce has access to enterprise resources on demand to make decisions faster, be more productive and provide better customer service, from anywhere in the world.

Also, it may make you feel better to know that these yellow telephones are showing up everywhere (http://www.surveyor.in-berlin.de/berlin/bt-indexe.html) so you aren't the only one with the issue. As we say in the JDE world: This is a "known issue", which is much more comforting than the "Unknown Issue".

Now I could be completely wrong and the yellow telephone could mean that your servers have become Phone Friends (http://www.torontopolice.on.ca/phone_friend/)

Anyway, glad I could offer come insight on your problem. Let me know if you need anything else.

Many thanks for your replies, Dan and brother_of_kara; on the one hand we could upgrade our ctx server to win2k and ctx XP to achieve greater stability from our infrastructure. This would be our preferred option.

On the other hand we could relocate to Berlin so our yellow telephones feel at home......!

Thanks,
Richard

Too bad....

You won't find any yellow phones in Berlin anymore. Since the mid nineties they became magenta - the new ci of Deutsche Telekom...

Michael :)
