ERP 9

does anyone know the status of general availability of ERP 9? We are
thinking of upgrading from XE to ERP 8 this year, but was wondering if we
should just wait until next year and go to ERP 9, if it is available and
stable then. We are planning our Distribution implementation and have to
work around a busy season, so I would be interested in hearing opinions on
this.

The GA release of ERP is currently scheduled for 3rd Q this year. It has
just entered beta and will be installed at a few beta sites very shortly.

Because the architecture of ERP 9 is going to be completely
different...ESPECIALLY for AS/400 clients not currently using DB2/UDB
(because it will be a requirement in ERP 9), as well as no support for
coexistence if you currently are, I'd suggest not waiting on ERP 9 if
there are functional aspects of ERP 8 that would add value to your
current business. If ERP 9 is available Q3, I don't see any
implementation going live until next year (OK, perhaps end of year if
you're running NT - SQL 2000 with just Financials and absolutely no
custom modifications whatsoever).

I'd personally not even attempt to call a release "stable" until at least
3 - 6 months after GA, assuming enough of an install base is out there to
speak of issues for clean installs, on the box, and migration type
upgrades.

From what I hear, it's a great product, full of bells and whistles, but
with the added functionality comes the price of added complexity from an
administration/upgrade standpoint as well as a re-write of the
application that will probably cause a few issues with those upgrading
clients.

Hope this helps.

Jim
