IMHO...

If you wish the data server to be a backup application server, I would
define it initially as an enterprise server, which by definition is both
application and data. Then, in case of failure of your primary, you'd
just need to perform a few OCM changes and the other server would pick up
the slack.

Of course, if the primary ES is the security server, you will need to
make other modifications as well...but if the data server is already
defined in OW as an ES, it's really not too bad.

As far as features, you'd install the data server as you would any ES
server per the installation instructions. There shouldn't be any
additional features needed just because it's the secondary ES.
