2 Instances of OneWorld Xe on same server

Hi List.
I heard a rumor that there can be 2 completely separate instances of OneWorld Xe running on 1 deployment server - does anyone know whether this is true or not? Thanks!

Depends on how you look at it. You can only have one instance of OneWorld on
the deployment server active at one time but you can have as many versions
as you want running. Use the 'snapshot' tool to switch between versions.

See document OTI-99-0067 on the knowledge garden for how to use snapshot

'The main purpose of SnapShot is simply to allow someone to install more
than one version of the OneWorld client on a certain machine'

Hi Diane,

Sounds like you are talking about Multiple Foundation. Do a search on the Knowledge Garden and check the Tech best practices.

Diane,

This is true, we run two instances of JDE one single byte, and another
double byte. We do this mainly by having each instance have their own path
codes (PD7333 & PDJ7333) in our case.

The major issue you need to cope with is that each instance needs to run on
a different port. This is handled by not doing builds on our deployment
server, and swaping INI files when we actually deploy a package. To
simplify this process we deploy to a 2nd tier deployment server, one for
each instance. That way the users never see a deployment server that may
have the wrong port.

Diane :

It's possible, using utility SNAPSHOT.EXE provided by JDE.
You install the first release, run snapshot (it saves \b7333 folder, plus
JDE.INI, ODBC settings and Registry keys under a renamed folder).
Then you install the second release and run snapshot again but selecting a
different target folder.
You may swap across releases (only one active at a time) with SNAPSHOT.EXE
I've tested that with B7321 and Xe on the same box.
