What is the disadvantage to recompressing a parent package? Any gotchas on
this? Is the intent the time it takes to build a full package?

Libby,
I haven't heard of any disatvantages to recompressing the parent package. All that it does is insert the update packages into the base package and it takes me less than 1/2 of the time it takes to build the full package.

Libbi,

The only thing I've had happen to me with recompressing a full package is that sometimes the specs can get corrupt, if you are doing other things on you deployment server, but it is absolutely a time saver and you only need to deploy the package to the client since the server will already be update with all your update packages

the disadvantage is that when you've build an update package you'll need to recompress that full package otherwise the new specs won;t come when you need to (re-)install that full package.

We never compress the full package for that reason (as well as saving half an hour building time)
