B73.3.2 to ERP 8.0

We are preparing to upgrade from B73.3.2 to ERP 8.0. I have gone through the Upgrade Guide and the KG documents that I could find. We are running on a cluster of Windows 2000 enterprise servers with an SQL Server database. After the upgrade we will be looking to move into the world of JAS environments.

Has anyone had experience with the upgrade from B73.3.2 to ERP 8.0 with a similar setup? If so, what problems did you experience?

Hello, Todd,
I am just curious - why are you are installing ERP 8.0 if ERP 9.0 is
available?
We have XE; I am waiting for ERP 10 in April to start a test installation.

Re: RE: B73.3.2 to ERP 8.0

Alex,

ERP 9.0 is not available yet (not even for Beta). It is not scheduled out untill later this year. ERP 9.0 is likely to be a fairly major shift from the B73.3 base that was used to develop B73.3.1, B73.3.2, Xe, and ERP 8.0. It is likely that ERP 9.0 will require J.D. Edwards customers to be on Xe or ERP 8.0 in order to upgrade. ERP 8.0 just came out this past summer.

Re: RE: B73.3.2 to ERP 8.0

Todd,

You are correct. JD Edwards has always provided a direct upgrade path to
a new release from only the previous two releases. Therefore, you must
be on XE or ERP 8.0 to be able to directly upgrade to ERP 9.0, when
available. And yes, it's also been stated that there will be large
amounts of retro-fitting required, UDB will be needed, and no
co-existence is allowed...three big changes right there in addition to
the many others that will surely come with ERP 9.0.

As to your initial inquiry...your upgrade path from B7332 to ERP 8.0
should be a normal one (if there is such a thing). Since it's been out
awhile and tried quite a bit, I believe most of the gotchas have been
documented. Be sure you have all of the required ESU's and service packs
applied (especially the Planner ESU for ERP 8.0), there is a spec merge
fix, and some TC issues. Print out all of the system specific upgrade
docs from the KG and be sure to read and understand them, that should
allow you to either avoid them or at least be aware of the process to fix
them. All in all, though, everything is pretty well documented.

If memory serves correct, you have an additional server to be used as the
new deployment server, which will allow you to run the upgrade without
losing your existing deployment server, which will be a big help if you
run into any issues.

Just saw doc OTM-03-0002, ERP 8.0 Known Issues for Upgrades, on the Knowledge Garden. Also doc OTM-02-0022 describes the latest ERP8 planner ESU JE2842.

Um

Alex - what planet are you living on ?

B9 is not going to be available for at least a year - there is no release date published by JDE - and no-one can tell when this software will be available.

Secondly - B10 ? LOL! Whatabout B11 and B12 ? I heard thought transferrence devices were supported in B12...!

Thirdly - Todd will need to go to B7334 (ie ERP 8.0) or Xe before even thinking about future stuff like B9...!

And lastly, yes, I have done this several times - contact me if you would like details.

Re: RE: B73.3.2 to ERP 8.0

Thought transferrence....SHHHHH...you weren't supposed to reveal the new
"no client" concept.

Of course, they haven't had a monkey survive the "full package install",
I don't even want to tell you what and where they are planning to use for
the human interface for package updates...
