Planner ESU JD17626 question

Hi list,

Please settle a question concerning planner ESU's.
When installing a planner ESU is it necessary to build and deploy packages
to each environment? I understand it should only affect the planner
environment, but I thought I saw somewhere that it also needs to be promoted
(packaged?) to all environments.

Thanks for your answers.

The long winded answer is that Planner ESU's should be applied to any and
all environments that you would ever consider updating with an ESU, ASU,
Update, or Upgrade. Though it's name "Planner ESU" confuses folks into
thinking that it only needs applied to the actual Planner environment, it
actually modifies structures used for installs such as table conversions,
spec merges, etc. that are used in each environment as it is updated or
upgraded.

The short and easy answer is "yes, you have to apply it to all
environments"..... because JD Edward's says you should.

Larry,

How are you? Hope things are going well.

Here is what I found on the JDE Knowledge Garden.

What is a "planner ESU?"

A planner ESU is created with special features which update the
specifications and two DLLs in the Planner pathcode during the
initial setup procedures.  It is very similar to the client update
used to distribute update packages to a workstation but this
updates the deployment server.  A planner ESU is only way to
distribute enhancements and fixes to the OneWorld programs used
during installation, upgrades and updates.  A regular ESU does not
update objects used when you are signed on to the JDEPLAN
environment.

Is it installed differently from other ESUs?

The steps required to install a planner ESU are no different than
any other ESU.  You will notice that the SETUP.EXE runs longer
because specifications are merging to the Planner path code.
Apply a planner ESU to all environments as you would do for any
ESU.

I also know that this same rule applies to ERP 8 and applying planner ESUs.

Thanks,
James

It is necessary to deploy the Planner ESU to your environments if you are doing Product Packaging ( this is because the planner update code contains shared elements between the build process and install process).

Another good reason to apply the planner ESU to your environments is that the planner ESU often contains overlaps with OMW code.
