Seems as if JDE is outsourcing its software development QA department to India - this report from the Denver Post talks about how they expect to outsource much of their development to reduce costs....

The term "you get what you pay for" often comes to mind with these cost-reduction schemes. I just hope that by doing this, it doesn't impact the relative stability that Xe and ERP 8.0 is enjoying right now.

I fear that they did this in a 'race to the bottom' - choosing this path because their competitors have in order to even remain in the game.

The way business folk usually try justifysteps such as this is to rationalize that if that do not take a step that will ensure profitability then the company will go under and *everyone* will lose their job.

It is something which JDEDWARDS should have done long time back. I welcome
this move. When all the top companies are enjoying the cheap labour of
India, why should Jdedwards be behind and be non competitive. In the long
run it comes back, and hurt us consultants, whose bread finally depends on
how many copies of JDEDWARDS software sells, rather than immigration laws.

I would have been happier, if Jdedwards would have done it themsleves by
opening a company there instead of giving the work.

As far as quality is concerned concerned, Covansys has a CMM level 5
certification, which I can tell Carnegie Mellon does not give to everybody.

The real question is will they understand localized things like GST and payroll?

Thanks for bringing it to our attention.

Well, I am not suprised at this as in this tought time.. Cost is the biggest consideration for any company. By Outsourcing it to another country they are just trying to put a cap on the cost but not on quality. I know for sure that Microsoft have its only non-US R&D division in India. So I would be worried about their knowledge or any thing. I am sure COmapnies like JD edwards and Microsoft have though it throught before going ahead and taking such steps.

I think as it is, quality is questinable. We can see endless updates and SPs just to fix bugs not for enhancements. I think MS is releasing better products after they outsourced some of their devision to India. So in near future, we could see quality products from JDE too.
