Save-While-Active Backups

Hi List!

Quick question:

Does OW Xe SP20 support Save-While-Active backing up on the AS/400 (with the standard VRMS backup SW)? Or should I consider a 3rd Party solution?
Any potential 'pitfalls' to be aware of?

Thanks in advance,

I'm not sure about specifically SP20, but we use BRMS backups with and without SAVE-WHILE-ACTIVE. If using SWA, the backup takes alot longer, but everything gets saved ok.

We're not at SP20 but Save-While-Active isn't dependent on JDE's SP's. The
biggest issue with SWA is allowing the Backup utility to get to "Check
Point". This is easiest by setting 10-15 minutes where no one is active on
the system, otherwise there is no telling when the backup will start because
it has to get to check point before backups can start. Another issue is if
you don't have a specific point when everything is brought to CP at the same
time and have to do a full recovery what do you tell you users when they ask
where they are at as to entry or maintenance tasks. You won't have a
definitive point to start from. If you're a 24x7 shop this isn't possible,
but if you're not it's well worth the 10-15 minutes of USER down time to
have a clear and clean recovery point. Once check point is reached you can
proceed with normal business and the backup moves forward and you aren't
losing processing time. We've recovered files and libraries from SWA
backups and have never had any issues.
