V5R1 and XE

We are going to be upgrading our AS400 to V5R1 from V4R5 at the beginning of
the year. Does anyone have any warnings or know if any documents on KG to
review prior to this upgrade?

Hi-

We did this upgrade a few months ago...

Yes, there are some important KG docs you will need and some SARs that will need to be applied. Are you co-existent? Just type V5R1 into the search field.

Also, don't forget to change your server .INI--the KG also has a doc on this. You may have already changed the .INI from V4R5MO to *CURRENT, but double check. The KG doc will walk you through these steps.

Are your plans to upgrade Client Access Express on the clients too?

(I personally would use this opportunity to upgrade your SP too--because you will need to rebuild a full package for the server and the client for both the SP and the OS upgrades.)

Best wishes-
David

You might want to check min specs before you upgrade to 5r1. I think you need to be on SP 18 before you can go to v5r1.

Libbi,

We are on 17.1 update 3 and just updated to V5R2. We had alot of PTF's
from IBM to apply, but other than that, we haven't had any issues.

Steve,
I am surprised because the KG says you are supposed to SP 20 or higher and
you are only at 17.1 Update 3? What kind of PTF's and how long ago? Just
wondering if their latest CUM package is going to have everything that we
would need.
No problem on XE?

Re: RE: V5R1 and XE

Libbi,

According to the the minimum technical requirements for the iSeries (AS/400), V5R1 requires OneWorld Xe SP15.1 or later.

We did this upgrade (V4R5 to V5R1 a couple of months ago... even changed to a new 820 from a 720), and just followed the documents you probably already found, and did what they told me. Didn't have any problems at all. Everything went smooth. We were at SP13 and upgraded to SP19.1 a week or two prior to doing the OS Upgrade. No problems since then.

Good Luck!

RE: RE: V5R1 and XE

Thanx Steve. Actually what was on the KG wouldn't come up for me, so I
logged a ticket and support emailed me the document. were you in inventory
class with me? Someone from Anderson, but I cannot remember the name,
sorry.

Hi Libbi

I completed one a couple of weeks ago. You only need to be on Sp15.1 so you
should be okay. If you are on co-existance then you will need to read the
document WST-01-0018.htm as it can cause some headaches. Also check the
APAR for JDE/AS400 and make sure you have applied all the PTFs. Some will
not be on the CUMs

Good Luck

Thanks

Libbi,

No problems at all so far with XE. The KG says alot of things that do not
turn out to be true. We did this back in November. As far as the PTF's they
came in a seperate box from IBM. Their are more PTF's CD's then V5R2 CD's.
We also upgraded Client Access to I Series navigator.

Re: RE: RE: V5R1 and XE

Wasn't me, but could have been my boss, Colby. He was probably in there with a couple of other people (women) from Anderson. I'm assuming you are talking about a class at JDE in Chicago. I was there with them, but was taking some other class (CNC or System Admin, I think)

RE: RE: RE: V5R1 and XE

You are correct! It was Colby! Thanx. Say hello and thanx for your
response to my upgrade question.
