it all depends whether security is setup on your DS or not.
If security is turned off, use JDE/PWD where PWD is the password for JDE
in you database.
If Security is on check if you can login with JDE from a WS.
If you use JDE/JDE in all places (as you say) it should work either way.
I would also check the ODBC setup for System on your DS.
