PDF files on C:\\, Citrix

Dear JDElist,

I don't know it this topic has been up here before, but let's see if one of
you have had the same
situation.

We are changing our Citrix Servers from NT4 to Win2000.
We have decided to have only one drive 'C:\'.
Now we want to 'lock down' or secure the 'root c:\' so the users can't
write/delete dir/tables to/on C:\.
When testing, we discovered that when a user wants to 'view' a PDF,
OneWorld copy the PDF from
the ES down to the C:\ (as an intermediate file) and then further on to the
Printqueue.
The intermediate files on the C:\ are called i.e. s2v4.1, s2v4.2, s230
.....
Is it possible to put these files in an other dir. (like c:\wtsrv\temp) ??
Can it be done by a jde.ini setting ??
Is OneWorld using the 'root' c:\ (hard coded) for other files/working area
except for the 8 security files
(jdesec*, jdemod*, jdeauth*, jdeapp*) ??

Has anyone of you run into this problem or are you using more then one
drive (c:\, d:\, .....) ??

Thank you for your help.

Best regards
Mats Thunholm

Re: PDF files on C:\\, Citrix

I think that if you change the NT/W2K tmp (or is it temp? Damn multiplatform) environment variable then the acrobat temp file will go to where you specify. As a matter of fact I am pretty darned sure of it.

Also, you should be able to specify a users' tmp (temp?) variable during their login script.

Re: PDF files on C:\\, Citrix

In the JDE.INI file there is a parameter in [NETWORK QUEUE SETTINGS]. The parameter is "OutputDirectory=". We mapped an "O" drive (for One World--ha, ha) for each user. This way all they can see are the PDF files they viewed. It gives every user their own PrintQueue.

Re: PDF files on C:\\, Citrix

We set up home directories for our citrix users that point to a separate server. This path is automatically setup as the Q drive in the login script. The path to the Q drive is specified in our jde.ini for oneworld ini, logs, and printqueue.

This allows us to secure the citrix box itself.

Re: PDF files on C:\\, Citrix

In Win 2K / NT the 'tmp' environment variable is used by the programming tools (VC++,VB, etc) and the 'temp' variable is used by other programs (Word,Excel, etc). This holds true for MS applications, I just define both to the same directory and be done with it.

Cheers,
Ralph.
