intercompany settlements

We have so many transactions hitting our intercompany rec/pay accounts everyday. Has anyone come up with an easy way to analyze these accounts? Currently the user has to inquire on every batch to get an explanation of why the settlement occurred which is really time consuming given the volume of transactions. Thanks in advance.

Really. What method do you use?
If you are using the HUB method, at the end of the month, everything being equal, this account should have a zero balance as the hub distributes all Dr and Cr necessary?
unless there are some entries to settle manually.

If it is DETAIL, it may be a lot entries, but again this account should have a zero balance, unless there are certain transactions to be settled manually (entries straight to account) therefore not having this account "M" machine generated entry.

Give us more info, and we may help you.

We are using the detailed method. Not sure why the accts should be zero. Maybe you can explain, but all of our intercompany accounts have a balance. We have to settle the rec/pay between the different companies each month, so the accountant has to put together an explanation of each charge that makes up the balance. When you look at the transactions in the intercompany acct, the explanation just says post due to/from and doesn't tell you what transaction created the intercompany unless you inquire on a batch review screen to see the entire j/e/voucher. I was thinking of creating some sort of report to help in the analysis. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

KCL,

Sorry for my previous info. The accounts would not be zero.
Being that you are using the detail method, the first account on the JE, its company is going to act as if it were the Hub for the journal entry, therefore it will change from time to time.
Do you post by batch? If yes, the JE # will always be the batch number. This is one way to trace JEs that go into these accounts.
Also you can write a report to look at these accounts only
where your data selection will be " object account = 1291" as an example as if 1291 were your object account for Interco
have it level break on company.

The result may be:
it will give you info as such
CO 1
interco with CO 2 =12,000 and have it list all transactions making up that amount
interco with CO3 = 7000

CO2
interco with CO 1 = (12000)

So you will be able to see the receivable (Debit) for CO1
and the payable (Credit) for CO2 for the same amount

Try that and please let us know if it works for you
