Hi All

Am new to CNC. What would be the need of having an FTP server running on the deployment server, is it used while installation or is needed for other tasks also.

Looking forward

Hi Yogi,

You need FTP to transfer files from/to your deployment server to your Unix box or AS/400.

Client Access ODBC is used to send information to the AS/400. I wish it used FTP as it's faster.

If on AS400, FTP is used to put the SYSTEM and KRNLSPEC from the CD:\Hosts\AS400 (of installation, update, or SP CDrom) in the Deployment Server. This is then restored from savefile to populate the system library on the AS400. Installation Instructions for each install/upgrade/update/SP have details.

Yes, to restore OneWorld updates to the AS/400 you do use FTP, from any
workstation that has a CD player attached. However, her question is why the
deployment server would need FTP services active. I don't know of any FTP
transactions that occur between the deployment server and the AS/400, unless
it is using FTP for package builds when updating the IFS.

? ... why the deployment server would need FTP services active ?

The only time (other then installation) I have seen the need for an FTP
server running on the DS was when a Unix Java Server needed to upload
Media Objects to the server.

Thanks, Gerd

Re: RE: FTP Server

When installing the host code on the on the AS400, it will FTP files from B7333\HOSTS which it will use to install the host code.

This is the only reason I know to have FTP Services on the deployment server. Service Pack instructions for the AS400 assumes FTP services are running on the AS400 and directs you to use the FTP client on the deployment server to push the files to the AS400.
