JDE List,

I am just seaching for some general feedback regarding the current hardware
configuration of the OneWorld environment that I am currently working in.
I am most interested in whether my ES is appropriately sized to avoid
processor and/or memory bottlenecks. We recently had memory leaks on the
RS/6000 and am wondering if anyone might be able to shed some light on that
issue also. I have found several issues on the KG and am pursuing those as
well.

OneWorld: B733 Xe (no updates applied)
OneWorld applications: Financials
SP on the ES: 16.1
SP on the WebS: 16.1 or 16.1_008
SP on the CitrixS: 16.1_016
SP on the DS: 16.1
UBEs executed daily: 200 to 225

Production Enterprise Server: RS/6000 S80
OS Version: AIX 4.3.3
Processors: 6 - 400 MHz
RAM: 8GB
DASD: 730GB disk space
Database: Oracle 8.1.7

4 Identically configured production Web Servers: Compaq Proliant
DL360s
OS Version: Windows 2000 SP2
Web Software: Websphere 3.5 Standard
Processors: 2 - 800 MHz
RAM: 2GB
DASD: 9.1GB mirrored

2 Identically configured production Citrix Servers: Compaq Proliant
DL580s
OS Version: Windows 2000 SP2
MetaFrame Software: 1.8 SP3
Processors: 4 - 700 MHz
RAM: 3.5+GB
DASD: 9.1GB mirrored
DASD: 18.2GB mirrored

We are supporting 1500 - 2000 users with approximately 80% on the Web and
20% on Citrix. We only have about a dozen users using "fat" clients.

Any more information needed, please let me know.

ALL COMMENTS ARE WELCOME!

Thanks!

Hello,

Is there any reason why you haven't applied any updates yet? I know that a lot of the memory leaks associated with the programs themselves are address in the various updates.

Also, with SP18 or higher the JAS clients gain a LOT of extra functionality.

Other than that I really don't see anything wrong with your ES configuration. The only suggestion that I would make is upgrading your DASD. We have 10 environments in our configuration and we are already past the 3TB mark. Granted we are running more modules than you. I guess this would be a function of how the business is run and what processes they have in place.

Based on the numbers provided:
----------------------------------------------

Your WEB servers seem a little small. I would upgrade the amount of RAM if possible. A minimum of 4GB of RAM would be expected to hold about 300 users. Even with upgrading the RAM I would expect that you will find out that you will need to put more servers in place.

As for the Citrix servers, I don't believe that there is anyway that you will get 150 users each on a box. Which is what it would work out to be on the lower side of your projections. I wouldn't expect to see anymore than 50-60 users on a box. My basis for this is because at a previous employer we ran the Proliant 8500 which was decked out, all 8 processors and all 8 Gigs of RAM, running W2K Advanced Server with SP2, MetaFrame XPe and we could only get 85 connections confortably.

Anyhow, I hope this helps you. If you have any questions, just shoot me an email.

Thanks!
