SQL7 vs SQL2000

Hi guys :

I'd be glad to hear your comments on how does Xe running on SQL2000
compares to Xe running on SQL7.
Does SQL2000 really have a better performance and stability? Is it
noticeable? What happen with the infamous table locks? Does their
frequency decrease?

Thanks

We upgraded to Win2k/SQL2k (from NT/SQL 7) and did notice a great
improvement in the stability side with the enterprise server and the JDE
kernals/queues. The enterprise server reboots has decreased
significantly.
As for performance due to the move to SQL2k, I would say that it has
increased, but not as dramatically as we expected (anywhere from 10-20%
We did a few runs of reports before/after with the same data-selection
and did a compare. I will try to find them and post the times..

Hi Sebastian:
I have not done any performance testing against SQL Server 7, but SQL Server 2000 has shown a very good stability.

I'm running SQL Server 2000 in Cluster mode, and for reasons to long to explain here, we have had to power down the server -too many times- while SQL Server while it was running and in only 1 ocassion we lost one database, which we recovered from the backup.

I'm very please with the estability, ease of use and performance. Our configuration include 40+ databases, in some cases, with databases 15 GB+ each.

Regards
Jorge

Jorge :

Muchas gracias por la información. Hay mucho mito sobre SQL2000 y quería
escuchar historias verídicas
al respecto, y en especial qué ocurría al interactuar con OneWorld
Gracias y saludos por allí : Sebastián
