Xe Update -2

Have anyone applied Update 2?

I am getting ready to apply this update over the weekend. Any gotchas I
should be aware of, have not seen nor heard anything from JDE on this.

Thank you,

I did apply this Update with no error.
But be sure to apply SP15 with one-off 10 and its pre-requisites (it also
works with SP16). Also take a look at the ESU pre-requisite in the XU2
manual. This should be applied before Update 2.

Marco.

The only issue I ran into was that the server package build took 5 tries
before it was successful. I called JDE's Outstanding Support Line and they
recomended that you just keep building it until it works. And Lo-and-Behold
it worked.

Service Pack 15 is not a requirement for UPDAT 2.

Be warned. Server package builds will generally fail after Update 2 is applied when running a Unix Host. Check the KG, there are at least four SARs relating to upper vs. lower case issues and at least one ESU to apply before a full package will build on the Ent. server.

Hi Darian,

Sorry for this unsolicited mail. I am just curious if you are the same
Darian from Broughton. This is Devi from Richmond VA. Lets keep in touch.

Thanks.

Darian,

I applied Update 2 this past weekend and it went fairly smoothly. You'll see some other posts that mention a problem with server builds post update 2...luckily I was able to build mine without incident.

There are also some differing opinions on the way the Software Update should be applied. Some feel as a project promote through OMW, others as a direct apply to production just as you probably did applying it to DEV for your testing. I did it as a direct apply (exactly as I applied it to DEV and CRP) and it worked well.

One thing to mention is that while my testing in both DEV and CRP did not show any problems with objects or corruption in customized reports, I did experience problems in Property Management Objects and some Job Cost customized reports. The resolution was creating an OMW project including all bad objects and reports, performing a "get" from CRP, and promoting them into production. At that time, an update package was necessary to push out the repaired objects.

Good luck!

I applied Update 2 about 3 weeks ago, and everything went fine. If you are on SP 14.1 you don not really have to go to 15 before applying update 2. SP 15 does break some things like not being able to mandatory deploy to multiple path-code. We are wanting to apply SP 16 but are a little hesitant about it.

Good luck...it should go fine it just takes a long time if you are running an AS/400 it took me the entire weekend to get all done.

After 27 hours or so of promoting the project from DV to PY via OMW, I called JDE tech support to see if there is some way to verify what it's doing. (I am seeing the "transferring...." message boxes with progress bars like normal).

Besides saying it looks like it is still chugging away, the person I spoke to recommended that update 2 be applied to the other environments by installing just as we did to development, not with OMW.

Since we are so far into this and I'm in no hurry to stop it, I'm giving it over another night to see if it finishes.

You could always go to another client and check the OMW logging for the
project...
it writes the information for each individual object as it goes. I've found
this is an effective way to check on the progress of long transfers.

Re: RE: Xe Update -2

I thought of that, but didn't want to take the chance of messing up the transfer. Thanks.

No matter now though, cuz it bombed with the dreaded "General Error in method, Status Change" message about 28 hours into the transfer.

So I guess we'll try the other procedure now. Isn't this fun?!

Ryan,

Thanks for the info, however, we did our update..DEV went very smooth.
Although when going to CRP..the OMW process (which is new in Xe) ran for
about 27 hours or so...and errored out. "General Method Error, Status
Change" I have had this error on 3 different sites with 3 different types
of OMW processes.

We have opted out of the OMW process and are updating CRP the same way we
did DEV.

ANy thoughts or info would be greatly appreciated.

I guess I am a little lost. What benefit is there to using OMW and
basically doing an object transfer to the other pathcodes, rather than
running the ASU application? Also, if you run the OMW to move the objects
from DEV to CRP, you are replacing, NOT merging the objects currently in
that pathcode. Isn't it a much safer way to use the Electronic Software
Updates (P96470) application?

Xe, SP14.2, NT, SQL, WTS/Metaframe 1.8

Installed Update 2 into DEV and currently testing..

We had the same issue at our site, i would apply to each environment using
the same method, ie. not through omw.

Re: RE: Xe Update -2

Darian, you are absolutely correct. The install instructions for Update 2 are misleading (dare I say wrong). Using OMW is not going to work. JDE will tell you that you should apply update 2 through the Software Updates (P96470) to all environments just as you did with DEV. I did it this way, and it went very smooth.

Thanks

Re: RE: Xe Update -2

John, you raise a very good point and don't sound confused at all. I think the issue is that the original Update 2 CD and instructions didn't go through proper Q&A or something. Maybe they have changed this by now.

As far as I am aware of you should do the updates using Software Updates not
OMW. Also it is a safer proposition to install Service Packs off the CD
rather then Downloading them.

Yes, I can understand that point..the problem is that is you have modified
an object that has been included in Update2. If you don't run the software
update application, the object from Update2 is not merged with your (prior)
modified object, but replaces it. Promoting something through with OMW does
not merge, but replace the objects in the project. Second, say you have an
object that was modified in dev, but you never moved it to prod, yet it has
been included in the update2. That object will be merged in dev, then
migrated through to production, wiping out the good object in prod (say it
was fixed in either crp or prod itself) with the bad object moved from dev.
There are plenty of objects in dev that have been messed up and checked
back in..they would be merged and then migrated to prod. I think if you are
going to do the omw route of migration, you should copy prod to dev before
you perform the update2, so you are ensured that you have a good copy of CO.
