Work Center & Lotus Notes

Hi,
Has anyone tried to setup the external / internal e-mail tied to a user in
Lotus Notes from the JDE OW Work Center. What i want is to have capture the
Notes e-mail address which can be tied to a person in the Address Book. This
field should be able to let the JDE OW to choose from the Lotus Notes
Address Book list and any changes on the Lotus Notes on the user's e-mail
address will automatically reflected in JDE OW. Is this possible?? I'm
currently evaluating the Lotus Domino Connector for JDE OW (LEI & DECS) for
this purpose, but would still like to know more whether there's any way i
can do this without a 3rd party tool, or any other 3rd party tools available
for this.
The purpose of this is to setup a more flexible routing and workflow for
JDE. Another of my own idea is to just implement using Work Center for
approval, which i feel is much simpler .Any comments are most appreciated.
Tq.

Hi Bell,
Is it possible to do the same thing using Microsoft Outlook Express? Please share how are you doing it using 3rd party software.

Nibedita,
We didn't use MS Outlook Express because we have a Domino Server for sending
external mail. We need to set a profile in each PC and customise the
JDE.INI. Also, we have to setup our Work Center with an e-mail address tied
to each Address No and wrote a customized program in JDE OW to automatically
send out approval based on the e-mail address of the person. This is a one
time exercise, and you can use the Work Center to send out external e-mail
as if it is your messaging system. All sent e-mail from your work center
would appear in your sent folder of our e-mail application (Notes, Exchange,
etc). We also created a personal Queue in the Employees Work Center just to
receive the appropriate messages. You can use B0500190 to attach data to
send out with the e-mail in your customized program.
My guess is that you can use your Ms Outlook Express to see and receive
e-mail as our Lotus Notes. This is cause your MS Outlook would probably have
a mail account setup pointing to a server, and you can put this config to
your Work Center and JDE.INI to send/receive e-mails. No doubt this is a
quite big exercise, but we didn't manage to find a better way to deal with
this e-mail/work flow thingy.

Hi Bell,
Thanks a ton.
Here we are using Microsoft outlook for sending external mails from work center. Each person is tied up with outlook's e-mail id.
But I'm also curious to know how this e-mail address field can be integrated with outlook's Address book list. I'm writing this in reference to the following passage of your post # 10918

"--------------What i want is to have capture the

Any tips and concepts in this line would be very much appreciated.

Nibeta,
We've already evaluated Lotus Domino Connector for JDE OW (LEI & DECS). You
can also read the article which i've used for my evaluation also, i've
uploaded this file to the www.jdelist.com/upload.htm.
My personal opinion is, this file describes mostly on using LEI/DECS to
replace the JDE entry screens, such as PO entry screen in Lotus Notes. Then,
you can extend this feature by further add additional codes in your Notes to
enhance the feature. But, the thing that you would as yourself would be, why
would i need a data entry screen when we can keyin the data in JDE OW itself
?? Of course, the benefit would be you can send those PO/data using notes
and have features of notes :).
Well, after considering some pros and cons, we've finally decided to use VB
and write a totally customized application, and the invoices/vouchers are
uploaded back to JDE via Z1 files. You can find this as a standard feature
in JDE. We managed to finished our app in 4 months, and we're testing it
today. Well, seems to me like this could be a better solution for us to go
in the future as it really saves us thousands of bucks to code in VB rather
than JDE CASE Tools, not to mention VB is much more simpler and flexible to
code with. If this projects testing and implementation goes well, most
likely we can use this to save up development time and costs. Also, you can
do just whatever you want with VB + SQL2000(Use DTS to replication master
tables over to your customized app). Anyway, this is just my 2 cents,
hopefully i don't offend anyone on this list by saying this way. Some of us
are die-hard OW programmer, and i'm one, too. But, R&D makes our knowledge
richer ;-)
