Win2000 VS NT for Development

Hello Fellow Listers:

We are planning our upgrade from 7.33 base to XE.

We currently develop on NT machines and have user
clients of 95.

As we approach the upgrade, we are looking to
standarize all workstations to Win2000.

Is there anyone out there doing development on
Win2000?

Has anyone converted their deployment server to
Win2000?

Also, what is the minimum specification for the
desktop?

Are you also running WTS in the Win2000 environment?

Any information would be helpful!

Current: HP Unix 10.20 Oracle 8 OneWorld 7.33 base
Future: HP Unix 11 Oracle 8.06 OneWorld XE

Dawn,

I just completed an Xe installation and both my deployment and enterprise
servers are 2000. So far, the only issue I ran across was not having the
correct Service Pack for Win2000 loaded. Other than that, I have not
experienced any issues.

For the workstations, the Knowledge Garden has a list of the minimum technical
requirements. They change a lot, so check it out for the latest requirements.
In the beginning, our users were on 95, but we experienced performace issues.
We are testing 2000 workstations and this is working better for us.

Excuse me if I am wrong, but I thought the most you could jump in an
upgrade to B733.3 was B733.1. I don't think you can jump directly from base
to XE as an upgrade, but rather a new install. Group, am I wrong in my
understanding?

Has anyone converted their deployment server to -> Yes, no problems as far
it's not a PDC/BDC
Win2000?

Also, what is the minimum specification for the -> 128 Mb RAM (256 Mb for
developers)
desktop?

Are you also running WTS in the Win2000 environment? -> Yes, no problems. Be
aware of MS licensing

Any information would be helpful!

i did a lot of development on 2000 in 7.3.3.2 and it
gave me no probs at all. The ram is 128 mb.

Once signed onto the Knowledge Garden, go to the left hand side menu bar
Select Product
Then select OneWorld Online
Then select Minimum Technical Requirements
Once there, just select your platform.

sure hope you are wrong. at the MUG conference on chicago in december jde reps said all prior versions from B73X will upgrade in a single process.
actually, i am kind of counting on it !

Dawn, it looks like you won't have this problem with your Unix equip., but
just a note for anyone out there upgrading to Win2K with NT4 servers.

You can not submit package builds from a Win2K workstation while running
NT4.0 on your servers. It's a Microsoft issue with file locking that Win2K
and NT4.0 can't seem to get on the same page about. If you do a Win2K
rollout for your clients, but leave NT4.0 on your servers, you'll have to do
all package builds at the Deployment server's console. Package Builds may
not be the only function affected by this, so I'd suggest an all or nothing
approach to Win2K if you have NT on the server side.
