What's the vanilla DD to use in a table to contain next number?

I want to create a table where the primary key field will contain a next number value. What's the vanilla DD you recommend to use please? I looked at UKID but its Next Number tab is "No Next Numbering".

UKID is fine. You can get the next number yourself using X00022. When NN is tied to the DD, every place that DD item is used on an edit form can burn a NN.

If you have the requirement where you keep track of NN then its better to have a custom one so you don't see gaps in NN used by other apps.
