Vendor Search Type

Dear All,

We have recently acquired a new subsiduary company and will soon be setting them up on JDE. I would like to keep their vendor database separate from the main group, as they will be doing everything themselves. We currently only have V and C search types in use.

Can anyone think of any problems caused if I set up a new vendor search type in the UDC 01/ST for the new company ?

Steven,

There should not be any problem if you use a Search Type other than V for
your vendors. At the most,you will get a 'soft error' flashing at you when
you exit to the Vendor Master screen(F16) from the main Address Book
screen..this is simply because the System 'expects' a Customer record to
have a Search Type of C and a Vendor record to have a Search Type of V. If
this gets too annoying,I presume this error flash can be suppressed through
tinkering with the Code.

However,if the primary objective is to segregate this database from the
'Group' database & ensure controlled access to it,you could use the
'Security BU' field of the Address Book to achieve this. All the vendors of
the Subsidiary could be linked to Business Units which belong to the
Subsidiary with the access to these records controlled through the normal BU
security.

From the point of view of database aesthetics,you could also attempt to
allot them a 'number block' which is distinct & unique in the System.

We are using multiple search types for vendors with
no problems.

You can set up as many as you like - we here use a number of different
search types for different parts of the business. We set them up as a two
character code VX, where X equates to the business area. We also do the same
for customers.

You could also create the new vendors in a different BU than before, if you
can separate the groups using BU security, they would still be able to use a
V search type.

Really?! How do they expect to diferentiate the two companies A/R and A/P if
they do not use a new company number? Not to mention a ton of other shared
items not associated with product class'. "F" line type on SO's if using the
same SO type, etc., etc. etc. I guess the subsidiary is pretty much a shell?
