Un-Hide button

OK - I have the brain cramp thing going...

I have this HYP-BTN that is hidden. I can see that it exists when I go into
Visual ER Compare. I can't seem to find it - or un-hide it within FDA.

Takers?

Hi Daniel,

Q1.) Can you tell which button on which Form of wich APPL?
Q2.) What do you want to do with it?

I suppose, it is a Push Button because you can not hide a Menu/Toolbar Exit.

Q3.) Is your Button listed under "Hidden Fields..." selection of Form menu in FDA? Have you tried to change the Visible flag of it and find it on the Form?

There are some tricks how to conceal a control (including buttons) without turning of the Visible flag of it. They can be used separately or combined with each other. Let's see them:

1.) Enlarging the size of the Form, put it outside of the original size, re-size the Form.
2.) Put it under an other control (e.g. the Grid).
3.) Changing its size as small as it is possible.

To find them in the 1st and/or 2nd cases:
1.) Set your display resolution as high as you can.
2.) Open the form with FDA.
3.) Enlarge the size of the Form as large as you can in the both direction.
4.) Try to find it outside of the original size.
5.) Try to move/resize controls on the Form to find your Button behind an other control.

To find them when the 3rd trick have been also used:
1.) Follow the previous method.
2.) Try to set lower resolution for your monitor when you investigate the button.
3.) Have a good eyes.
4.) Have a good magnifying glass.
5.) Have a lot patience.
6.) Have a good luck.

Please, update your thread with additional infos and/or with your results. Thanks.

Good luck for Button Hunting,

I tried all of Zoltan's suggestions - only to my defeat. I couldn't find
the Hidden Button anywhere... It has eluded me...

OK... this is what "appears" to have been my issue...

When I do an ER Compare - I was getting this button called "HYPBTN More
Options [HIDDEN]." I have been completely unable to find the button... I
could see the event rules in the Visual ER Compare, but could never find the
button. When I validated the ER - the ER within this button,
coincidentally, failed. The Code within the control did not serve any need
so I deleted it.

Now the interesting part... I was using V-ER-Comp to move code from legacy
code over to XE. When I would move code from ... say the control EDIT
Search Type ... the code would end up in the 'More Options' control... It
wouldn't move to the EDIT Search Type control. The copied code ended up in
the "More Options" ER.

Now if I go in an add a single comment into the EDIT Search Type control...
then use V-ER-Comp to move the code, it copies it correctly.

Lesson learned... place a single comment, space, something within the ER of
a control before attempting to use V-ER-Comp to copy/merge ER from legacy
systems into XE...

If anyone has a better way to explain the behavior, please enlighten...

Re: RE: Un-Hide button

Daniel,
I'm really sorry that you couldnt find that button.
Please, answer some question.

1.) What is the release of the two affected? (I suppose, the current is XE but what about the "legacy?")
2.) Which release where you have this button on?
3.) What is the name of the APPL and the Form (ID please)?
4.) Does this button listed when you select "Hidden Fields..." from the Form menu in FDA?
Thanks,

Zoltán

Dan,
If you go into FDA, form, hidden fields can you see it there? If so, make it
visible. If not, then I have no idea.

RE: RE: Un-Hide button

Zoltan - lets see....

1.) What is the release of the two affected? (I suppose, the current is XE
but what about the "legacy?")
Original/legacy is B7331. Moving the MOD to XE

2.) Which release where you have this button on?
The button shows up on XE.

3.) What is the name of the APPL and the Form (ID please)?
I copied P0101SL to P560101S. The button appears when looking at Event
Rules using the ER Compare. Form ID is W560101s or... W0101SLA(P0101SL).

4.) Does this button listed when you select "Hidden Fields..." from the Form
menu in FDA?
No, the button does not appear when I select Hidden Fields.

Re: RE: RE: Un-Hide button

Hi Daniel,

Forget "HYPBTN More Options [HIDDEN]" (maybe forever.
I investigated a bit this issue to figure out what is it:
* Enabled it by ER
* Show it by ER
* Set the Control Text by ER
* Investigated for CLICKABLE controls
* Investigated Media Object settings
* Investigated Vocabulary Overrides
* etc.

The strange thing that you can get this as "FC More Options" in the list for more ER statements (e.g. If/While, Assignment, Control System Functions, etc.) but not for PressButton system function.

You will meet with this mysterious FC on all Forms of all Applications (you can check it!).

At last my assumption is that this FC/HYPBTN is something "obsolete" or "future use" thing which is suppressed somehow somewhere for the interactive engine but not everywhere.

Daniel, could it be satisfying for you?

Zoltán

RE: RE: RE: Un-Hide button

Yes... your response is satisfying..

I think it is important for us all to realize that, when using ER Compare to
move ER from one application/report to another... we pay particular interest
to where the moved ER winds up.

Sometimes we have to insert a single line of comment into a target control
before the ER Compare will copy it to the correctly corresponding control...
or it might wind up someplace bizarre.

Thanks for you help Zoltan!

Daniel,

The 'More Options' button is that button to the right of the OK/Cancel
buttons, no a little more to the right, um yeah that one - the one with the
upside-down triangle in the button. Way back when I was knee-high to a
grasshopper developers had to actually add that button manually so that they
could further add all the File and Row and Report buttons. The one part
that confuses me, is that I can't ever remember adding any code to that
button. Since now that button is automatically included (free!!!) in every
form, I can't imagine that the ER has any relevance (What is the ER
anyway?).

To further pique your interest, there are two ways of delving behind the
scenes. I don't remember the "cheat codes" or even whether they are still
available, but.....you use to be able to set a setting in jde.ini and then
go into UTB and look directly into the TAM specs. Also, with another
setting in jde.ini you could bring up events for objects that we developers
didn't even know existed. The JDE tools developers used these 'tools' all
the time. If I can figure out what the "cheat codes" are, I will forward
them on to you, but for now -- my nurse is coming with my afternoon juice
and (bless her heart) a few cookies.........
