Storing Statistical Data

I need to store statistical data to be used in financial reporting. This
data will either need to be manually entered into the system (I guess via
JE?) or we may be able to load it from another non-JDE file. I want to be
able to use the information in FASTR reports, so it would have to be stored
in the F0902. We have never used sub-ledgers, so I'm not sure if this is
where the data should reside. I've even considered using a separate ledger
type. Can anyone give me any advice on the best way to handle this?

Maggie,

Probably the best way to store this data would be via a separate ledger
type. This will make it easy the retrieve via FASTR and it enables you to
store your stat data in the same accounts as used for 'real' data. You
could use the AA ledger but you will need to allocate a specific range of
accounts. Problem with using the AA ledger (apart from the obvious) is that
journal entries to this ledger type have to balance.

I would not recommend using sub-ledgers (regardless of ledger type) unless
you have a very specific and well analysed need.

Have a look at the budgeting programs in G/L (if you are licensed for them)
and their processing options. Look also at the PC budget upload function
(under other budgeting methods), it works very well once you work it out.

Dear Maggie

We have set up ledger type AS (Actual Stats) in the UDC 09/LT for our statistical data. You can then pick it up in FASTRS and WW's easily.

You do not need to balance the journal when you key in or upload the data.

Hope this is useful. (Check out the General Accounting 1 manual for further advice - it's section 12-39 in my ancient book !)

Hi Maggie

As well as using separate ledger types you might also want to create special
statistical accounts that do not clash with your normal chart of accounts -
for example you could use a range of objects that our either higher or lower
than your existing ranges. FASTR performance can then be tuned by selecting
these only in the general specs.

You do not say what stats you are looking to record, but bear in mind that
you could use different units of measure in each ledger type - such as units
(e.g. for personnel numbers) or square feet (e.g. for office accommodation).
If you are setting up a number of new LTs you might want to prefix them with
U to separate them from others used by JDE allow you to easily identify them
as a range - again helpful when defining FASTR selections.
