I'm STILL not "functional", although I pretend to be so...

The issue that I've been tasked to look into is:
A sales order detail line is for a manufactured item.
There are quality problems with component(s) on that item.
We want to drill into those components to find the work order
OR purchase order for those components.

in other words

Users want to go from a SALES ORDER DETAIL LINE for a manufactured item,
to the WORK ORDER that the item was manufactured under,
to both PURCHASE ORDERS and WORK ORDERS for components.

I did not NOTICE anything when I made it to "WO Parts List",
but I have a talent for overlooking the obvious.

Is there existing navigation to do this?

Generally speaking to get that level of traceability you will need to turn on lot control for your inventory. One alternative is if everything used is make to order and purchase to order then you can trace by document numbers.
