Setup Failed.

I was attempting to install a full package to my Japanese NT build machine
and got the following message:

Setup Failed! The error reported by the operating system is 'The
permitted number of files was exceeded'. Please run setup again.

Has anyone else seen this error?

More details:

Install done as JDE (Domain Admin rights)

The full package was not compressed. We do not compress to save the 2
hours of build time. We only deploy over our backbone to the TSE's on a
regular basis anyway.

I rebooted the destination server, the deployment server, both servers, and
still got the error. I removed B7332 the next morning and every thing went
fine.

Hi Tom,

I have seen this once before and it was related to anti-virus software.

A quick search of the Knowledge Garden to refresh my memory picked up two calls.

They both talk about using package compression to make the problem go away. They also discuss the Trend Micro virus scanning software.

It would make sense to me that if virus software causes a problem for the setup program, it is more likely to cause a problem when a package, especially with development objects, is deployed without compression. This causes thousands of files to be copied to the workstation. With compression on, only a few CAB files are being copied.

We checked the event viewer for NT and there was nothing in it. The
jdeinst.log does not have anything useful in it either.

We found an old call with this issue and it was related to some anti-virus
software running on the machine. Once they turned off the auto-protect protion
of it the package was able to go down fine.
Does this sound like it could apply to you?
If so, try that out and let me know. It is does not also let me know.

Yes, the compression option worked and so did turning of the virus scanning
software and installing without compression.
