RE: World to OneWorld Conversion

We're also considering the pros and cons of upgrading from World to OneWorld XE. I'm having the heebie geebies thinking about this process, and it seems eveyone else in the JDE World arena is suffering to the same extent.

Perhaps stress counselling should be part of the upgrade deal !!

Advance planning is the key. It's also vital to make good use of your in house resources during the implementation so they become owners of the system when your consultants ride off into the sunset...

Good luck !

Steve.

My company is just starting to think about upgrading
from World (V7.3 cum 6)
to OneWorld. I've only had a few discussions with my
rep from JDE, and he
suggests that this is a pretty straightforward process,
but I'm not so sure.
Has anyone had an experience with this that will help
me better plan this
project?

Specifically:

-Do both systems work off the same data model and access
the same
tables?

-Can I run both in parallel, with production updates to
World showing
up in a OneWorld test environment?

-Are there any issues around version compatibility?

-What is generally the time and effort required (in
round figures)
to get this done?

-Are there any available tools that I can use to
streamline the process?

Thanks.

Re: World to OneWorld Conversion

That is why we are going to stop this JDEdwards madness and switch to KBM.
It looks like anything you do with this software package gets more
complicated with updates when it should be the other way around.

Go figure.!

RE: World to OneWorld Conversion

I have been following the World and One World forums for several months now
and read about all of the problems and issues with conversion. The question
I would like to pose is 'What are your thoughts on the collation (if any)
with the degree of difficulty with conversion and the degree to which the
shop may be vanilla'. We are about 95% vanilla with most World mods being
in Payroll. Would this make conversion easier for us compared to a shop that
was 95% modified? We do have homegrown RPG programs which I believe would
still be able to run until such time they are converted as well. Am I
correct in this assumption? I have also been planning on converting over a
course of 3 years, with most consulting assistance taking place during the
first year, after which our in house staff would take over with the
remaining modules or groups of modules depending on the requisites. How
does this sound?
Thanks for your input.
