I disagree strongly with this post. On more than one occasion, I have been helped tremendously from the expertise available on this list. When topics don't interest me in the slightest I simply don't read. Many other software packages don't have anything like this.

Re: Waste of time

Ray

I realize that my last request had a very simple
solution. One that I could not find by reading the
operators guide. I had called JDE support, but got a
call number. With a few people breathing down my
neck, I turned to the JDE list for help. I got the
solution almost immediately.

I have only been in a JDE shop for a short while and
in this shop I am the only programmer. I hope I am
not offending this list by submitting questions that
should be answered by calling JDE support, but I have
a job to do and when I need help I have to rely on
either JDE support or this list (when JDE support
won't do). I will try not to waste any more of your
time.

It is too bad you feel this way. Although you may be a "Professional", and
know everything, there are some of us who have to struggle through the
problems presented to us. Many times, JD Edwards Support line, will not
answer a problem I have, because they can't recreate the problem on their
system. Sometimes I can't find things I really need in Knowledge Garden,
because of the overwhelming amount of details, SARS and examples they have.
There is a vast amount of experience out there so someone that does not have
that much experience, should be able to ask a question and get help for
someone else who has struggled with that situation before. Why should
everyone reinvent the wheel every time they have a problem?

Yes there has been some moaning and groaning in this forum, but we all need
to let off steam some times. Some of us professionals reach our boiling
points from time to time and the moaning and groaning lets others know there
is a problem and perhaps they might be close to hitting the same problem
themselves.

If you don't like the goings on in this forum, you can unsubscribe. I think
the creators of this forum and the website have done an excellent job.

Re: Waste of time

Hi Diana,
I think Ray was speaking of the chats concerning the JDE support line. Your
need is what he supports and I agree. Now ,that is what I understood.
Have a good day.

That statement was ugly and very unprofessional. And that is not very
becoming.

Re: RE: Waste of time

Elizabeth, do you have any info on JDE Security in a book or a site I can access?

RE: Waste of time

I totally agree with Phil and Diana on this matter. We have been helped
many times also by others on this list. We are all experts in some areas
and novices in others. Sometimes the support line people are helpful and
sometimes not, but frequently the main goal we have is to resolve problems
the easiest way.
I would say that 80% plus of the messages on this list get deleted by me
since they are of no interest, and that should be true for most of us as
well. If you want a list that is only concerned with a specific small area,
then you would need a hundred lists - that's just not practical.
As for the repetition of messages yesterday, that's one of the occasional
glitches from JDEList as they enhance their systems. I for one see the
direction they are going in as being the right one. They are here to serve
us after all - keep up the good work.......
One thing that is dragging this list down is this latest FLAME SESSION - I'm
now forced to offer my opinion like everyone else, further adding to the
number of messages in the list that are off topic. I'm now going to have to
work an 18 hour day like Scott to keep up (no offense Scott lol.........).
Let's get back to the real purpose of this list - keep it friendly and less
moaning.

Re: RE: Waste of time

If you get the JDE administrators guide you will find a very good write up on
security. I got mine through Quest.

Regarding all the comments on Waste of time. I enjoy reading them all and know
that others are in the same fix that I am. Too much to do - not enough time to
do it all in. Everybody needing their stuff yesterday.

Re: Waste of time

G'Day Dianna

It is people like Ray ,in the IT community, that give it a bad name. I have found myself trying to rebuild ownership of application systems at many sites due to the attitude of the Ray's of the world. One good thing is, it means those of us prepared to try and understand problems of peers and cutomers, no matter how small, reap the benefits of becoming more in demand. Keep asking the so called simple questions and you will get reasonable answers from reasonable people (ignore the rest).

Have a great day.
