We are A7.3 cum 9 and we did not experience any problems in our V4R4 to V4R5
upgrade.

We also just upgraded from v4r4 to v4r5 and have had no real problems. (just some minor things)

We did have a scare because we use AutoTune and it had been set up with what looked like some sort of default values. We had to change those.

Also, when copieing the USER profiles over there was some IBM system value that was set so everyone who had *ALLOBJ lost it. We had to re-load all the user profiles after changing that system security value. (I dont remember the name of it off hand but if anyone really wants to know I can find out.)

Re: RE: RE: Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

We just upgraded from V4R3 to V4R5 no major problems, but at the same time we went from AS/400 Model-170 to a model-270 to an model-830, trying to get away from CFINTXX. We were forced to run several good old 'loop' programs in Batch to keep CFINTXX under control. But how do you think I felt when the 830 duel processor had two CFINTXX's running.
The only problem was the delay by IBM in delivering the Boxes on-time and JDE Singapore and Denver delaying the SPC code. Talk about 'JUST IN TIME'

RE: RE: RE: Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

Hello Scott, here's a little information on CFINTXX job(s).

In a nut shell the CFINTXX job(s) appear in WRKSYSACT when the Interactive
Corporate Processing Workload (CPW)is exceeded, this is usually caused by to
many interactive jobs running on the system, the CFINTXX job will usually
impact processing in a big way.

Interactive jobs can be identified through WRKACTJOB (work active jobs).
From here you should be able to determine the job(s) causing the problem.

Hope this helps

re:Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

Anyone else notice that the command WRKSYSACT does not exist for OS V4R5.

I have a the copy of the V4R4 Command but not V4R5.

(and the V4R4 version tells me that its for the wrong version and wont work)

Anyone else on V4R5 out there who does have this command working?

RE: Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

This is the first I've heard of this. The WRKSYSACT command is part of the
Performance Monitoring package, if this is installed the command should be
there. You may want to check and make sure that the usage limitation hasn't
expired for this license program, the command is WRKLICINF. Find the
license program and put a 5 next to it then page down to view the usage
limit, it should say *nomax...

If it is expired, then It will have a date of expiration listed......

Scott

I have recently upgraded from V4R3 to V4R5 and I still have WRKSYSACT (and
it does work okay)

RE: Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

Scott,

Not sure but I think this command is part of Performance Tools did you have
a copy of that when you upgraded to V4R5?

re:Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

WRKSYSACT is part of the Performance Tools Licensed Product, not the O/S
itself.

GO LICPGM, then take option 10 to see what products you have installed. F11
will show the release you have.

Licensed Installed
Program Release Description
5769PT1 V4R4M0 Performance Tools for AS/400

Perhaps when you upgraded from V4R4 you didn't get (or upgrade) the
Performance Tools?

Ok well that explains it I guess. We use AutoTune and do not have the AS/400 performance tools installed. (at least thats what I was told).

Does anyone know about installing that with AutoTune installed?

The person Who does that here doesn't really know.

hehe I just want that ONE command.

RE: Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

upgrade your performance tools. That is where the command hides.

RE: RE: RE: Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

What do you think that a batch loop program does to control CFINT?

Scott

Should not be a problem to install perf tools, even if you use AutoTune.

You should be able to install the IBM Performance Monitor on your system in
addition to Autotune.

One thing to keep in mind is that IBM charges for this license program, so
if you haven't already paid for it, justifying the cost might be an issue
since you already have a tool (autotune) in place, the pricing depends on
your Processor Group i.e. P10, P30 etc. If memory serves me right the cost
for Performance Monitor on a processor in the P30 group is approx...6k

Maybe Autotune has a similar feature of WRKSYSACT??? I'm not familiar with
that product...

Re: RE: RE: RE: Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

Yes,
CFINTXX will hit your interactive if you have too many Interactive jobs running, the main problem seems to be companies buying server box's and running world software when they should be running
OneWorld.
You can see CFINTXX by using the monitor function in Clint access as WRKACTJOB will not show you what is hitting your machine.
Nice one IBM.

RE: Upgrade to V4R4 or V4R5 from V4R2

I know what CFINT is, I know how it works, I know what triggers it, I know
several ways to watch it run (WRKSYSACT, STRPFRMON then query the QAPMJOBS
file, and SMTRACE). The monitor function in Client Access is a new one,
thanks. I have seen it be the primary cause of performance issues on
customer systems.

In early 1998, I did a cursory benchmark of JDE World (A7.3, I don't recall
the cume level) and OneWorld (B732) using about the same scripts. During
that test, it was obvious that any green-screen CPU utilization over 3
percent of total CPU capacity used a disproportionate amount of CPU
resources. Since those days, the curves, cut-ins, and limits have changed.
For the 270 and 800 series machines, the entire technique has changed but
the architecture remains the same. If you want to talk about sizing
machines or capacity planning for both world and oneworld, I know something
about that.

You stated that you run batch loop programs to keep CFINT from kicking in.
I am not aware of any technique involving batch loops that will have any
effect on CFINT. Based on what I know about this, it seems likely to me
that you are kidding yourself about any effect besides the obvious batch CPU
consumption.

Repeating the original question, what do you think that a batch loop program
is doing for you?
