Graham,

I have worked with a few, primarily on the World side. Standard register was one of the easier systems to work with. They allowed you to determine how much data to capture initially and were helpful in determining future usage issues.
If you think you'll be interfacing information into JDE in the future, you need to evaluate what information you'll want to capture now (inventory to cash) and in the future (customer data). Discuss the possibilities with them and they'll help you avoid some costly reprogramming.

Thanks for the reply.

Have you any knowledge on the best Hardware/Software to use. We only require
a very small set-up so something simple and easy is all we require.

I have been advised that the IBM 468X series and Fijitsu are the hardware to
use and also on software
side Salepoint makes software for the 4680s series.

re[2]: Retail cash registers

Graham,

I have looked at a few (about two years ago) and there was little difference. The biggest driver was our data capture needs. I'm sure prices and configurations have changed dramatically since.

When we set this up using Standard Register, the provided their own equipment and created an flat file (to our specifications) for data export. Standard Register uses a PC to capture and save all transactions, so the PC was attached to the network. On a nightly basis, we captured the data file from the days transactions and uploaded them using JDE 'Z' files.

If the IBM 4680 series has you current and future data capture capabilities, uploading the information should be fairly simple.
