For the most part, I would agree with the above statement. Knowing who can post journal entries is always important. However, if you have scheduled the posting program to run automatically, then any approved journal entry would post automatically. Furthermore, if you have not turned on journal entry batch approval in the General Accounting Constants, all entered general journal batches will be created with an approved status. your answer was just getting interesting when it was unfortunately cut
short on my browser.

If I were an auditor (and may moons ago, I was, for several years) I
would be more concerned about the ability to create pre-approved
journals than who could actually create them. An automatic overnight
posting process just compounds this issue.

There are just a few entry points to the JE creation program and ACS,
combined with appropriate menu locking is almost certainly the way to
go. If neither are in place, the auditors are probably asking a good
"starter for ten", as we say in the UK.
