Re-labeling screen data items

We recently went live on B7332, SP 11.3. We are waiting "a while" for the
dust to clear before incorporating any ESUs / SARs. When trying to re-label
the data items on the P0101 Category Code screens, upon saving the changes
in the DESIGN mode, we get the following error and the changes cannot be
recognized on the application screen. Any thoughts will be appreciated:

Why not use vocabulary overrides or change the data dictionary descriptions instead?

Changing the DD descriptions is not the way to go in many instances. Applications/Forms frequently override the default DD Prompts and/or Column Names. In addition you need to research the impact on other applications of changing a DD item.

Vocabulary Override actually modifies the form just as if you had gone in to Object Librarian and changed it yourself. The difference is that Vocab Override keeps track of these changes so that they may be re-applied.

The problem here is that the E.R. of the application has issues/problems that need to be dealt with. Several times we've had to deal with this issue in unmodified applications from JDE. Another component was changed and either the data structure template was not included or the application was not updated by JDE to reflect the change prior to final release packaging.

To Larry Jones - Thanks for your response.

We used the OL Design to mod the screens in B732.2 and it worked fine. Are
the unapplied ESUs the culprit here ?

Re: RE: Re-labeling screen data items

If you make changes using vocab overrides, all you need to do is build and deploy an update package to your workstations that includes the application.

For DD changes, the easiest way is to delete the following files from the b7/prodb733/spec folder on the client machine:

dddict.xdb
dddict.ddb
ddtext.xdb
ddtext.ddb
glbltbl.ddb
glbltbl.xdb

These files will be re-created and JITI down from the changed DD tables.

Hi All in this thread,

I have seeked over this thread and let me some addition:

1.) About the errors:
Sometimes you can correct this type of errors when you open the application with FDA, identify all reported lines, double-click them in ER designer and save the line with OK hit and Validate/Save the APPL. I said: sometimes but not always!

2.) There are several PREREQUISITE ESU for B7332 that maybe correct this type of errors or some of them. Generally the best way that do not start with B7332 without these main ESUs.
Which ESUs have you applied already?

3.) Be second to Larry, you have seriously consider that you rename the Data Items in Data Dictionary or Override it on certain forms with Vocabulary Override application. Now I do not want to describe the differences, benefits, traps and undesirable side-effects of these different methods (If I remember well then I have already done it on the Developers List/Forum).

4.) I don't think so that the FDA is the best way for renaming controls on forms.

5.) By my foggy memory, sometimes not enough to delete the mentioned .ddb and .xdb files to deploy all DD changes to the workstations but needs to Check Out the applications too. Maybe I am not right in it, my experiences happened in the far past.
The safest way is to build and deploy full package to deploy DD changes.

6.) AT LAST BUT NOT LEAST: Why are you using the (a little bit obsolate) P0101 Address Book application instead of the current P01012 Address Book???

That's all.

How funny Zoltan. I'm sure you nailed the problem by identifying the use of P0101 instead of the current version. Blew right by the rest of us :)

To Zoltan - Thank you. I misstated P0101; we are using P01012.

Most of us are fat clients and deploying the changes, via DD or screen
design change would require a package re-build (I think). Or I could go to
each fat user and check out the P01012, then erase the check out.

Thanks for the info !
