Quarterly activity reporting using FASTR

Calling all FASTR Masters!!

We are trying to use FASTR to produce a current quarter activity report.
Does anyone know how this can be done without adding up the three period
activities (PA + PA-01 + PA-02) or subtracting the previous quarter's YTD
from the current quarter's YTD (AB - AB-03). We would also prefer not
having to maintain the columns each quarter as we would using the Q1, Q2
etc column amount codes (not asking for much, are we?).

Our problem is that we are already have 20 or so columns defined for
specific business unit comparisons (and then there's the FASTR 40-column
limit).

Any assistance is greatly appreciated.

Try using the <PA+NN : Prd Act, Current + nn periods> Column Amount Code and setting the <Mandatory Processing Option. Y> in the Additional Parameters.

The user will then be prompted for the current period when the version is run. If they enter the beginning of the quarter date then you will get the desired result.

Hope this helps.

Hi Gavin (your "G'day" suggests you're from "down under"?),

Thanks for the suggestion. The problem we have is the 40-column limitation
in FASTR. If we add up the 3 relative periods to calculate the quarterly
column, we'll need to use 4 columns (the 3 periods plus the total) for each
of the 20 or so business unit columns we've already defined.

Others have suggested creating a separate version for each quarter with
each version having the individual quarter "hardcoded" in the column specs
(i.e column amount code Q1 in version 1, Q2 in version 2 etc.), then run
each one at the appropriate quarter. This would work for us (except for the
fact that we have to create 4 FASTRS instead of just 1).

What would be great is if there was a variable column amount code similar
to PA for the period (say QA) which would add up the periods for any
quarter "behind the scenes" and eliminate the need use 4 columns.

Does anyone know if you can add a column amount code (say QA) and where you
would define the logic to add up the periods (I'm thinking for example that
if the reporting date was Sept 30 and you used column type QA the program
would know to add up the period amounts for Sept, Aug and July). Does this
sound doable, or am I hoping for too much?
