Problems after IBM PTF

Hi JDELIST.
Here's our background information: We are running OneWorld B733.1 with
an AS/400 enterprise server (Operating System level V4R4M0 ) and using
Client Access Express V4R4M0, too. Over the holiday weekend, we applied
the IBM cumulative PTF CD (C0252440) to the AS/400 system and the latest
database PTF as well. However after we did this, we could not log into
OneWorld successful. Within the JDE.LOG I saw the following messages:

[IBM][Client Access Express ODBC Driver {32 bit}][DB2/400]Communication
link failure. Comm RC=8405 - CWB0986 - System MTM1 program ended
unexpectedly - SQLSTATE: 08S01
====>> Side note: MTM1 is our AS/400 system name.
JDB9900164 - Failed to connect to System - B733

Has anyone experienced this or seen these error before? We ended up
restoring the operating system back to what is was before applying the
cumulative tape and then we could log into OneWorld again. This really
shooks me because never have I ever had to back off a cumulative PTF tape
from IBM so this seems really odd. I'm wondering if we missed something
or what.... Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

We had the same problem when we did the upgrade from V4R4 to V4R5. It was
one of the database PTFs that caused it. Rather than restoring the pre-PTF
version of the OS, we just removed the "temporarily applied" PTFs from that
CD until the problem went away. When we have the opportunity (on a
non-production system) we will ascertain the specific PTF that causes the
problem.

Hi Diane,
I'm not in the group working on OneWorld, but about a month ago I applied the '252' cum, along with what was the latest Database fix pack at that time (dated 9/25/00 - #12). The people working on OneWorld (we're still testing) reported no problems. Maybe you could at least try putting on the Cum package, if not the most current Database fix pack. I noticed that IBM has a 13a and 13b for the DB fix - maybe the problem is in the fix pack?

I realize this may not be very helpful, but wanted to let you know we didn't have any issues with the CUM package.

Check to see if 5769-SS1 SF 63901 is part of the cume update, I had to back off
this one. When applied unable to log onto OneWorld.. This SF63901 effects the
prestart jobs & RPG applications on the AS/400.

We have SF60796 loaded on our Citrix servers.
On the AS/400 we have SF60698 as our last applied.

This whole Client Access Express thing is new to us so maybe we are missing
something.

Thanks in advance.

Diane,
You should apply SF63638, the latest service pack on the citrix servers.
SF60796 apparently broke it.

APAR = SA87698 CA400EXP-ODBC-MSGCWB0999 AFTER APPLY OF SF60796 IN ODBC
With Client Access Express v4r4 or later, and specifically
after applying SF60796 to the v4r4 client, an ODBC
connection attempt may fail with the following error
message:

IBM Client Access Express ODBC Driver (32-bit) DB2/400
SQL Communication link failure. Comm RC=4 - CWB0999 -
Unexpected error: unexpected return code 4

The problem is typically seen with applications that run as
NT services. This includes applications such as Microsoft
Internet Information Server (IIS) and Microsoft SQL Server.

In addition, users of Client Access ODBC or OLEDB in this
environment may experience an apparent hang. The most
common cause of this error is failure to start the remote
command host server (as-rmtcmd).

Finally, users of Client Access OLEDB in such an environment
may experience relatively large memory leaks, causing
performance degradation on the NT Server on which Client
Access is running.

Hope this helps...

Hi

We have an AS400 with internal Netfinity card. We have just been told to
install SF60796.
What problems did it cause.

Thanks

We also experienced the inability to log onto OneWorld after applying the DB
PTF's (SF99105) on V4R5.
We previously went to V4R5 and ended up backing off the PTF's to get
OneWorld running.

After re-applying SF99105 we determined that all ODBC connections were not
working. IBM support directed us to two new PTF's which supercede a
couple in the DB Group PTF.
They were SF64957 and MF25540. Still no luck until QPGMR was granted
*USE authority to program QSYS/QPWFSERVER. That solved it.
